Hook and Hunting: 3rd Annual Cheese Cup in Traverse City

This Saturday in Traverse City, anglers will be tying their flies and gearing up for the 2019 Cheese Cup.

This is the third year for the fundraising fly fishing tournament, put on by The Northern Angler.

Teams of 1 or 2 anglers will be looking to land the biggest bluegill, bass, carp or pike.

The tournament is catch and release and for the fish to be scored.

Organizers are hoping to bring awareness to suicide prevention.

The competition raises money for Third Level Crisis Center.

“We gather back here about 4:30 p.m. and we’re going to do a taco bar, and have beverages, and we’ll have all kinds of silent auction items and door prizes. So it’s our third year doing this. Last year we raised over $12,000 with the help of Real Estate One so it’s a great event,” explained Brian Pitser, owner of The Northern Angler.
