Michigan Farmland Can Be Used for Commercial Solar Arrays

Governor Gretchen Whitmer and the state’s Department of Agriculture and Rural Development say Michigan farmland can be used for commercial solar arrays.

They say any land that’s enrolled in the Farmland and Open Space Preservation Program can open themselves up for large solar panel projects.

That land adds up to more than 3 million acres across the state.

Developers have struggled to find farmland not protected by the program.

Governor Whitmer says it’s a way to diversify revenue options for farmers.
