As you begin your Memorial Day weekend, take time to reflect on what Memorial Day is all about.

A day honoring those who have made the ultimate sacrifice while serving in the United States Armed Forces fighting for our freedom.

Cadillac veterans have spent all year planning different memorial services and a parade on Monday. Any branch of service is welcomed to join Monday’s events.

At 9:30 a.m. Cadillac Area Honor Guard performs a Salute to Sailors on Lake Cadillac between the City Dock and the Cadillac Rotary Performing Arts Pavilion where everyone is welcome to join.

At 10 a.m. there will be a Memorial Day Parade down Cadillac’s Mitchell Street. The parade will proceed up Harris, north onto Mitchell, then west onto Pine Street. Then follow the shoreline to the Veterans Memorial Stadium.

All area veterans and families are encouraged to walk in the parade including families of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice are encouraged to walk and bring a picture of their loved one in the walk.

A horse-drawn carriage will also be available to carry those unable to walk the route.

At 11 a.m. following the parade is the Veterans Memorial Service Ceremony.

This year, there will be a restored Army truck and trailer in the parade. Wake up with Regan Blissett and Stephanie Adkins as they preview the Navy Memorial Service by the city dock where a wreath will be placed to kick of Monday’s events.
