Michigan House Approves Bill to Ease Penalty for Lapsed Concealed Gun Permit

A new bill would ease punishment for Michigan residents who forget to renew their concealed pistol permit.

Friday, the Republican-controlled Michigan House overwhelming approved legislation to change the penalty to a civil fine.

This would be as long as the CPL permit had expired within the last year.

A second violation would be a misdemeanor.

Supporters say the current law is too harsh, while critics say the bill goes too far.

It now goes to the Senate for consideration.
