CAPS Fourth Graders to Face Off in Viking Reading Rivalry

Cadillac Area School Fourth Graders will face off for the first ever Viking Reading Rivalry next week.

Since Oct., teams of students read three books and competed within their schools, answering questions that tested their knowledge on the books.

That competition took place the past three years.

Now, the four winning teams from each school will compete to be district-wide champions.

They’ll be quizzed on their knowledge of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and The Fourteenth Goldfish.

“Although I use the word compete, it’s not really a competition. The whole program is really there to get the kids excited about reading, to have a little bit extra level of excitement about reading,” said Terri Anderson, the media specialist at Mackinaw Trail Elementary School.

The competition starts next Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Cadillac High School auditorium.
