TART Trails Getting Funding Boost for New Trail Expansion

The TART Trails group is getting a boost for their fundraising effort for a new section of trail.

TART Trails in Traverse City has been working on a vision for a paved trail, running between Traverse City and Charlevoix.

The next phase is the trail from Acme to Elk Rapids. Right now the paved trail ends at Bunker Hill Road.

To get the fundraising rolling, Short’s Brewing will match up to $5,000 in donations to the trail project.

TART Trails says the trail system can be a huge tourism draw, and is unique across the country.

“The ultimate vision is a trail that connects from where the TART trail currently terminates at Bunker Hill, all the way to Charlevoix, that’s a 46 mile gap. Once we close it will actually create a 325+ miles non-motorized trail network in Northern Michigan,” explained Brian Beauchamp of TART trails.

The next step for the trail extension is to present design plans to the Elk Rapids Village Council at a June meeting.
