In 2012, Kim Stemple was working as a Special Education Teacher when she found out she had lupus and lymphoma.

Until then she had been an active marathon runner.

While she was hooked up to an IV, and feeling pretty down, one of her friends gave her a medal.

It came from a racing partner who had just finished a race and hoped it would cheer her up.

She hung the medal from her IV pole, and other patients said they wished they had one too.

So she started a charity, called “We Finish Together”.

It collects medals of all sorts and donates them to all kinds of people who may need one.

The organization has handed out medals to patients, people in homeless shelters, and veterans.

Each also comes with a personalized note from the donor who a message to remind the recipient that they have support.
