Business in Focus: Biewer Lumber

Much of Northern Michigan was really founded on the lumber industry and today it is still going strong. We had Sean Johnson with Biewers Lumber on the show.

The business is a fourth generation family owned business and Biewer Lumber is the parent company. The facilities that are here in Northern Michigan are primarily for red pine timber.

They recently went through a 30 million dollar expansion in Mcbain, MI and they expect that is will increase production by about 60 percent.

They are currently hiring and looking for more employees. The work has become almost completely computerized and the manual labor and decreased tremendously within the industry.

Johnson is proud to work for this company and says “It’s awesome. The history that is there from when the facility in McBain was built in 1984 and the progressions that we have made through now, our Lake City facility, it is a smaller mill but the volume of production that we put through there every year is just amazing. We do have a very good core base of employees that we are very fortunate to have.”
