President Trump’s New Immigration Plan
The president laid down his new plan as he ramps up for the 2020 election.
As part of the new plan, President Trump says his administration would start turning away more asylum seekers at the border.
But it does include a fast-track for English speaking immigrants. The president proposes future immigrants be required to learn English and pass a civics exam prior to admission to the U.S. “To promote integration, assimilation and national unity.”
The proposal is getting a lukewarm reception, even from Republicans.
They say there is little interest in another immigration fight.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says the new plan would make the current influx of immigrants at the border even worse.
The plan is expected to be transformed into legislative language and introduced to congress soon.
