Grand Traverse Academy Goes Into Lockdown after Incident with “Unruly” Student

The Grand Traverse Academy in Traverse City went on lockdown today.

The superintendent says he was concerned about an “unruly” student.

The Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office says they responded to the school after getting reports about a drunk student around 9 a.m. on Friday.

Deputies found the student in question in the courtyard.

The superintendent says the student was using strong language, so he made the decision to lockdown the school and take an extra safety precaution.

“There were no weapons today but we want to be mindful that if the event has the potential of escalating to an unsafe event, we’re going to ensure the safety as best we can for our students,” said Superintendent Tim Coneset.

Superintendent Coneset says he will be doing an internal investigation about the incident.
