Chippewa Co. Receives $50,000 Grant for Economic Development

More good-paying jobs could be coming to Chippewa County.

It’s all thanks to a $50,000 grant from the Economic Development Administration Technical Assistance Program.

The program awarded the money to the Chippewa County Economic Development Corporation in Kinross.

It will allow the EDC to hire a professional firm, which will create a planning strategy to attract businesses to the area.

Right now there are a few businesses with good-paying jobs in the EDC zone.

But with this planning strategy, the President Chippewa County EDC Chris Olson

Says they hope to fill many vacant buildings.

“The Industrial Park and Airpark has tremendous amounts of assets that are typically under-utilized and we’re just trying to maximize those utilizations.” he says.

Olson says with the new Soo Lock Project coming along, and with the possibility of the county getting a satellite launch site, they’re hoping new businesses will take a closer look at the area.
