Fallen Police Officers Honored at Annual Memorial Service in Traverse City
“And it’s up to us to honor them and to keep their memories alive.”
Police from all over Northern Michigan came together to remember and honor fallen officers.
It was part of the Annual Memorial Service in Traverse City.
The community honoring fallen officers like Michigan State Police trooper James Boland, who was killed by a drunk driver in 1987, and Traverse City sergeant Dennis Finch who was shot and killed in 1998.
Former Missaukee sheriff Jim Bosscher was the guest speaker at the event.
He focused on the dangers police officers face on a daily basis, and reminded everyone that some who serve don’t get the opportunity to come back home.
“Everyone of those means a face and it’s very humbling. When I was looking up those statistics there was a picture and a face with every person that loss their life defending their communities,” Bosscher said.
The memorial service was part of National Police Week.
