Charlevoix Advancing Design for New Public Service Facility

The city of Charlevoix wants the community’s input on improving their design for a new public service facility.

Right now two separate buildings house the Department of Public Works and Electric and Water Facility.

But they’d rather house all their departments under one roof.

So far, the city has gotten design input from a community open house and the Charlevoix Planning Commission.

Now designers will incorporate the feedback and provide an update to city council next Monday.

“There will be some environment benefits including reduced cost for operation. It really overall should improve the efficiency of our operations and allow us to better serve the public,” says Charlevoix city manager Mark Heydlauff.

The city manager says the budget for the building is set at $10.9 million, but they expect to come in under budget.

It will be built on the site of the current electric and water building on Carpenter Street.

They hope to break ground on the building this fall, and move in by 2021.
