Hundreds Participate in Sault Ste. Marie Billy Mills Fun Run
A man who won a gold medal in the 1964 Tokyo Olympics continues to spread his love for exercise in Sault Ste. Marie.
Billy Mills shocked the world more than five decades ago when he won the 10,000 meter race.
At 81 years old, he once again participated in the Billy Mills Fun Run Saturday.
Mills has done this for nearly three decades in the Soo.
Several hundred people, from the young to the young at heart, participated in the event.
Running has enriched Mills’ life in so many ways, he wants to pass on those values to the younger generation.
“When youngsters are running, when they are exercising, they are moving. They are developing new brain cells. Running is one of the most powerful, one of the most positive activities a young person can do,” said Mills.
Saturday’s events included a 5K race and walk, a one mile run for the elementary students and a Tot-Trot.
