Man Dies in Oceana County Powered Parachute Crash

A Rothbury man died Saturday morning in a powered parachute crash in Oceana County.

The sheriff’s office says it happened just before 11:00 a.m. on S. 56th Avenue in Benona Township, about a quarter mile north of W. Stony Lake Road.

Callers told dispatchers the aircraft was about 25 to 30 feet off from the roadway.

Witnesses say the aircraft was flying low when the parachute collapsed and then crashed.

The pilot was taken to the hospital where he died from his injuries.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board will now handle the investigation.
