Petoskey Battles Hotel Fire at Americas Best Value Inn

Fire crews are at the scene of Americas Best Value Inn on Spring Street.

They told us around 9 p.m. Friday the fire was only about 50% under control.

Details are still limited at this point, but firefighters told us there are no injuries and everyone was able to get out OK.

It started with a call about a fire in a mechanical room at the hotel.

The fire closed down Spring Street at Sheridan Road around 5:30 this evening.

Four departments responded.

They say when they got there, the fire was in the ceiling between floors and had already started spreading through the building.

Lt. Todd Troxel with Petoskey Public Safety told us they expect to be there for hours checking for hot spots.

“We’re still working to get the fire completely under control and protecting exposure from other buildings,” he says.

And the Charlevoix County Sheriff’s office posted these photos (below) on Facebook saying “Hats off to the Petoskey department of Public Safety” for sending firefighters to retrieve a flag from atop the hotel.
