Benzie Central Middle School Students Release Salmon in Platte River

Seventh grade students from Benzie Central Middle School have been waiting all year for an experience they’ll get this weekend.

They have been raising chinook salmon starting with 150 eggs from the Platte River hatchery in November.

Then they took them back to their classroom and have been watching them grow.

Students learned about their life cycle, how to monitor the water quality, and how to take care of the fish.

This Saturday students will be releasing the fish into the Platte River.

Students will be at the Platte River Hatchery releasing the fish this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
