Charlevoix High School Student Selected to Spend Summer at US Senate

A Charlevoix County high school student will be spending some time away from home this summer working on the floor of the United States Senate.

Emma Buday is a junior at Charlevoix Public Schools.

This June, Emma will spend three weeks assisting senators as part of the U.S. Senate Page Program in Washington, D.C.

Emma was selected for the program by Senator Debbie Stabenow because of her passion for government and politics.

Emma is top of her class at Charlevoix High School and is heavily involved in student government.

She is also the recipient of two scholarships from the Charlevoix Zonta Club.

Emma says she wants to see more women in government.

“There’s a large gender pay gap. We should fix that by electing more women to public office and making sure that they can rise to the top without a glass ceiling. I think I’ll learn more how government works, instead of just reading about it or reading in the news, be able to interact and see how it really functions with people,” said Emma.

After high school, Emma hopes to study political science at Georgetown or Yale and eventually become a civil rights attorney.
