BBB: 80% of Websites Advertising Puppies for Sale Actually Scams

If you are thinking of buying a new dog online, beware. There is a common scam going around that leaves you without man’s best friend.

The Federal Trade Commission says many sites advertising pure-bred puppies for sale are fake, affecting as many as 37,000 people every year.

The Better Business Bureau says at least 80% of websites advertising puppies for sale are actually frauds and mostly based in West Africa.

The BBB recommends using a credit card for any online deposit; however, they suggest meeting the dog and breeder in person before buying.

Many reputable breeders agree, and add a discounted dog should always be a warning to consumers.
