Readers and Writers Celebrate Independent Book Store Day in Sault Ste. Marie

Book lovers celebrated independent book store day across the country today.

525 exactly according to one Northern Michigan book store owner.

In Sault Ste. Marie, Island Books and Crafts celebrated Saturday with those who love physical copies of written works.

The event first began in 2014 and continues to grow.

At Island Books and Crafts, customers strolled through shelves upon shelves of books.

Guest authors even came in to read their creations.

Many readers say there is something special about visiting a book store and holding a hard copy of a novel.

“Everybody gets a good feeling about them and what’s happening is that people are getting kind of sick of looking at a little screen. We are all by ourselves trying to make a living selling books” expressed Les Townsend, owners of Island Books and Crafts.

His store has more than 18,000 different works.

Many of which are written by local authors.
