The is hosting its Kids Fishing Derby this Saturday.
They plant trout in a pond and allow kids to fish them out.
Every kid age 14 and under walks away with a prize.
Prizes include fishing poles, tackle boxes and other supplies
All children participating must be accompanied by an adult, and bringing your own fishing pole is recommended.
The event is free and no sign up is necessary.
“This gives them something physical to do that’s not technology-generated, and I think that is important for kids today. And they learn a little bit about nature, and it’s a bonding time for a parent,” said Diana Needhum, president of the Kalkaska Trout Festival.
Kids will get to keep fish they catch during the derby.
