National Weather Service Makes New Forecast Zones

The National Weather Service in Gaylord has created new forecast zones for the Eastern U.P. and Beaver Island. The purpose of the new zones is to provide people with a more detailed forecast and warning services.

Chippewa County is now broken down into three different zones: Western Chippewa, Central Chippewa and Southeast Chippewa.

Mackinac County is also broken into three separate zones:  Western Mackinac, Eastern Mackinac and Mackinac Island/Bois Blanc Island.

Beaver Island is now separate from the Charlevoix County zone as well.

The National Weather Service will create a seven day forecast for each zone and issue separate hazards for each of the new zones, like winter storm warnings, for example.
