Prescribed Burn Planned at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore

The National Parks Service plans to do a prescribed burn as soon as this week at the Sleeping Bear Dunes.

They say it’s the first wide-area prescribed burn ever to be held at the national lakeshore.

It’s the start of a strategy to use fire as a management tool for years to come.

The plan is to burn more than 900 acres in the national lakeshore’s Platte River district in Benzie County.

A campground and some of small roads and trails will be closed to visitors during the burning period.
