Grand Traverse Bay YMCA Spreading Awareness for Child Abuse
The Grand Traverse Bay YMCA is helping spread awareness of child abuse prevention month, by taking part in a national effort known as “Five Days of Action”.
This week the Y is focusing on preventing child sexual abuse by sharing tips for parents.
Pinwheels line the entrance to the Y to help bring awareness, and members are encouraged to sign a pledge to stand up to child abuse.
The Y is making resources available to help start those tough conversations with kids.
“They have many, many resources on how you can know and be able to recognize the signs of it happening, so when you know what to look for and you see it, then you can respond, you can do something about it, you can make a difference,” youth development director Melissa Smith said.
The Y will be hosting “Healthy Kids Day” on Saturday, which includes a 5K race and activities for kids.
