Botanic Gardens at Historic Barns Park: Celebrating Spring

There is plenty of history here in Northern Michigan and the Botanic Gardens at Historic Barns Park are full of both history and nature. They recently opened for the season and have some exciting news to share!

They are currently working on adding their 9th garden which will be a pollinator garden with 600 perennials and shrubs that will attract pollinators like butterflies and hummingbirds. They also are working on a new labyrinth that is 60 feet wide and will be wheel chair accessible.

Karen Schmidt, the Board Chair of the Botanic Gardens says, “We want our public garden to be accessible to everyone no matter who they are and accessibility for the handicap is super important to us – the history of this place was healing and that’s our thing is healing through gardens.”

They are an entirely volunteer based organization and if you’re looking to put your green thumb to use and get involved,
