Michigan Launching Program for Farmers Interested in Growing Hemp

Michigan farmers looking to grow hemp may be in luck.

The state is launching a program for farmers and processors interested in growing industrial hemp starting this year.

Farmers interested will have to get a license and enter into a research agreement with the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Governor Whitmer says Michigan is naturally fit to grow and calls the emerging crop an opportunity for new business.

Meanwhile, the U.S. government plans on implementing a national program next year.
