CMU Gymnastics Coach Fired
The Central Michigan University investigation into its gymnastics coach is now over.
The university decided to fire Jerry Reighard.
The university says they fired Reighard because he consistently disregarded the universities medical staff when it came to student athlete injuries.
A 9&10 News investigation shows repeated complaints against Reighard by the university over handling gymnasts’ injuries.
CMU says the latest incident happened in February.
That’s when they say he tried to influence a student to lie about concussion symptoms.
We found emails that claim Reighard gave student athletes medical advice as recently as October of last year.
The 121-page investigation report shows Reighard created a hostile atmosphere.
The university placed Reighard on leave last month.
And following their investigation, they have decided to fire him.
The university’s athletic director says Reighard’s violations could lead to NCAA violations.
Reighard amassed more than 500 wins since taking the reins in 1984.
