Man Accused of Throwing Boy Over Balcony in Mall of America Went With Intent to Kill

Police say the man accused of throwing a boy off a balcony at the Mall of America was looking for someone to kill.

The suspect in the attack Deshawn Aranda appeared in a Minnesota courtroom Tuesday.

Friday the victim’s mother says Aranda picked her child up and threw him off the mall’s third floor balcony.

5-year-old Landen is still in critical condition from the nearly 40-foot fall.

He suffered massive head trauma and broken arms and legs.

Police say Aranda told them he had been visiting the mall for years to try to speak to women there.

He says he lashed out because he was rejected.

Aranda’s bail remains at $2 million.

A hearing is scheduled for May 14.

As of Wednesday morning more than $700,000 has been donated on a GoFundMe campaign for Landen.
