National Telecommunications Week Recognizes 911 Dispatchers
It is National Telecommunicators Week; a shout out to 911 dispatchers everywhere.
They are often called the first first responders, and this week recognizes the work they do.
Dispatchers in Leelanau County are among those working behind the scenes, answering 911 calls and non-emergencies alike.
They say it’s a stressful and sometimes thankless job, but it is rewarding to be the first call for those who need help.
And they say they appreciate the recognition this week brings.
“It just brings awareness to her job which is often forgotten by a lot of people. So just highlights what we do. I like my calls, we answer 911 calls, send ambulances, fire departments, police officers to citizens in need,” said Jessica Plamondon, Leelanau dispatcher.
Recognized the third week of April every year, National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week dates back to 1981.
