Mesick Schools Receives State Police Security Grant

Mesick Schools just got a grant from Michigan State Police to make security upgrades inside their buildings.

The district received a $73,000 safety grant.

They plan to use the money to add secure entrances to their offices.

That means people will have to be buzzed in and out of offices in the buildings.

The superintendent says it’s a move that will improve student safety.

“It will help us to know who’s in the building and who’s exiting the building. We’re aware now but it will make us more aware of it so we’re all very excited about it. Student safety is always our number one priority and this will help create a safer environment for our students and staff,” said Superintendent Scott Akom.

Mesick says they’d like to have the upgrades complete by the start of school in the fall.
