“I’m pretty sure my heart stopped when we got the approval,” said Dan Tincknell, getting a new home through Habitat for Humanity.

Habitat for Humanity of Grand Traverse Region broke ground today to give a local family a place to call their own.

The Tincknell family fell on some tough times with job changes and a lack of credit, making them unable to secure a mortgage.

Right now they are renting a trailer without proper heating.

With a 16-month old son and one on the way, they knew they needed a place to call home.

That’s when the Habitat for Humanity stepped up.

Now the Tincknell family, along with some volunteers will start building their new home.

“I joke around with my wife that I’m actually looking forward to the day when my sons playing baseball his friends and they break a window because I can look at him and tell him ‘you know how long it took me to put that window in’,” said Tincknell.

The Tincknell family is excited to raise their family in their stable home in Kingsley.
