Michigan Agrees to Settle Lawsuit Over Ballot Selfie Ban

Michigan has agreed to settle a lawsuit over a ban on ballot selfies.

Kalamazoo voter Joel Crookston took a selfie with his ballot back in 2012 and posted it on social media.

A lawyer warned Crookston it was illegal and could disqualify his vote.

Crookston filed a lawsuit in 2016 to try and stop Michigan’s ban on taking photos of marked ballots.

A court filing suggests there will be an easing of the ban.

Michigan’s ban on displaying completed ballots has been around since 1891.
