Maddy Stange is a Freshman at Cadillac High School. She is a straight A student in both the classroom and kitchen. At just 15 years-old she is running her own sweet treat bakery called Maddy Cakes.

Her mother, Heidi Stange says, “She’s 15 year’s old but has already accomplished so many things in her short amount of time and she never ceases to amaze us when it comes to baking or being an awesome, kind, person.” Although Maddy can’t drive a car, she can run a business out of her own kitchen – made just for her in the basement of her family home. Maddy has big aspirations – going to college and pastry school.

Maddy says, “Being a baker is something that’s under-looked like through the basics like a nurse or an engineer but when you think about like a cook or a baker – you don’t think of it as much. I’m glad It’s something a little different you know that I fell in love with.”

She’s making sweet treats all while learning even sweeter life skills. “It takes a lot of patience and you have to try a lot of different things and you have to be prepared for things to not work out. But when they do it’s very exciting,” says Maddy.

She’s also learning accountability – loving and taking pride in each thing that leaves her kitchen. “Most of the time I try to make my own decisions because I present what I make,” says Maddy.

Her mother Heidi, is extremely proud of how far her daughter has come and all that she has learned. “I love that when she faces obstacles because you know, baking is challenging, life is challenging, she has that mindset of I’ll figure it out – I might have made a mistake but I’ll get better at it and it’s instilling great skills in her for later in life.”
