Sault Ste. Marie Man Sues Chippewa Co., Sheriff’s Office for Not Letting Him Wear Artificial Leg in Jail

A man is suing Chippewa County because he says they did not let him wear his artificial leg during a three-day stay in jail.

Ralf Keller of Sault Sainte Marie filed the lawsuit in federal court against Chippewa County commissioners and the sheriff’s office.

In 2016 he says he went to jail for a non-violent matter.

The lawsuit says his prosthetic leg was not a risk to anyone.

In a court filing last week, attorneys for Chippewa County said the jail had legitimate reasons for confiscating Keller’s leg.
