Investigation says Woman Died of Natural Causes at Montcalm County Jail

The Montcalm Sheriff’s Office says it now knows what caused the death of an inmate.

They say Amber Lynae Bills died while in custody last December.

A two-month long independent investigation shows no jail policies were violated.

The sheriff’s office says bills complained of stomach pains and had been seen by a nurse in the jail.

They say she told the nurse she was going through a meth withdrawal.

She was then prescribed Librium and moved to an observation cell.

Officers say they noticed Bills was unresponsive and tried to save her.

The sheriff’s office says the autopsy shows bills died of natural causes.
