Spring is officially around the corner, and if your kids have cabin fever, there is a cure.

We’re checking in to see what’s new with Norte in Traverse City and learn how we can get more kids on bikes.

Program Director Ben Boyce says they will be implementing after school programs like a mountain bike team for a wide range of ages, from first graders to high school seniors.

“The elementary—we call that the farm team—that is our largest sector of the team, we have I think it is close to 90 kids between first and fifth grade,” he says.

And Norte is continuing its after school Bike Más project.

“We go to where the kids are,” Boyce says. “Smaller groups of five go with a Norte instructor and usually a volunteer to help them out and we meet at the school. Go after bike safety for the day, and then we go out and have a ‘bike adventure,’ as we call it. Riding around the neighborhood.

From the park to the beach, kids get to have some fun and instructors get to work some bike safety instruction into the experience.
