And we’re off. The 2020 Presidential Race has begun and many candidates have their sights set on Michigan.

For the first time in nearly 30 years the Republicans won the state of Michigan in the Presidential Election in 2016. The Democrats seem very focused on reversing the trend in 2020.

Along with former congressman Beto O’Rourke visiting Monday morning, New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand also had a pair of stops in Michigan Monday.

The second stop of the night was at a meet and greet in Clawson with the Governor at her side. Senator Gillibrand campaign heavily for Governor Whitmer this past election season.

In front of a crowd of about 300 people, senator Gillibrand re-iterated her past history of winning in mostly Republican districts as a reason she can take states like Michigan back for the Democrats.

“I win the Red areas. The Red areas of upstate New York which Hillary lost. Hillary only won 17 out of 62 counties in New York I won back 18 of those Trump counties,” says Gillibrand, “So I win Red places, I win Purple places and, more importantly, I get things done and I don’t need to sacrifice my progressive stances to do so.”

The Democrats are not the only ones focused on Michigan, President Donald Trump is coming to Grand Rapids next Thursday. It will be his 18th visit since announcing his candidacy in 2016.
