Battle of the Books Finale Hosts Children’s Author Grace Lin
A challenge of children’s literature skills wrapped up Sunday in Traverse City.
The finale for the Battle of the Books competition took place at the City Opera House.
Fourth and fifth graders read 10 books in the last few months.
They joined teams and had to answer questions about each book.
The final two teams took the stage Sunday.
Volunteers tell us so many students signed up they had to stop accepting teams.
Children’s author Grace Lin even stopped by to talk about one of her books.
“We learned how to memorize books from 10 books cover to cover. It was so fun,” says participant Reese Walkup.
“It’s pretty amazing to be here and see all the kids so excited about books. I spend a lot of time in a studio writing away, typing away or drawing, so to come to an event like this and see all the kids excited about the book it’s kind of like seeing your work come alive,” Lin said.
