Flooding is Closing Parks in Mount Pleasant

Flooding is causing some issues for parks in Mount Pleasant.

Both Island and Nelson parks are closed.

The Mount Pleasant Director of Parks and Recreation says they’re seeing more flooding than usual.

That’s because things usually thaw out before we see river levels rise so much.

However, since the ground is still pretty frozen right now, the water can’t seep down into the soil.

Instead, it pools up on the ground’s surface.

“Hopefully we get a cool down tonight and things slow down a little bit and let the water clear out of the basin of the river so to speak,” said Chris Bundy, director of parks and recreation for Mount Pleasant.

For right now, the city is asking everyone to enjoy the river from afar.

They hope to have parks open in the next few days.
