Hook & Hunting: Hunters Encouraged to Enter Pure Michigan Hunt

The new hunting license season is here, and the DNR wants to remind hunters about the Pure Michigan Hunt application.

Each $5 application gives you an entry for what’s been called “Michigan’s ultimate hunt experience,” with licenses for elk, bear, spring and fall turkey, plus antlerless deer and a reserved waterfowl hunt.

Winners also get a hunting equipment package.

The DNR says there are roughly 600,000 deer hunters in Michigan, but fewer than 20,000 people apply for the three winning spots.

That means your odds are relatively good, and the DNR says most past winners only purchase one to five entries.

A spokesman says odds of winning the Pure Michigan Hunt are better than the odds for the Elk Draw.

DNR Wildlife Division Director Russ Mason says, “Every dollar there goes to conservation. Every one of those dollars is matched with two dollars or three dollars of federal money, so it’s a big deal for us. This year we generated almost $1 million overall for conservation in the state of Michigan.”
