Cardinal George Pell Convicted to Six Years in Prison

The most senior Catholic official to be found guilty of sexually abusing minors was sentenced to prison Wednesday.

An Australian judge sentenced Cardinal George Pell to six years behind bars.

He must serve a minimum of three years and eight months before he’s eligible for parole.

Pell, a former senior adviser to Pope Francis, was convicted on five counts in December for molesting two boys back in 1996.

He denies the charges, and says he plans to appeal his convictions in June.
