Colorful, whimsical and relatable are three words that describe the artistry of Meredith Krell.

The Charlevoix artist learned her craft from drawing animals featured by the National Geographic.

Originally a printmaker, she picked up painting again and now uses her preferred method, oil painting.

Some of her inspiration comes from a familiar four legged creature, the horse.

She was also inspired by a trip to Japan.

“A lot of my work is inspired by Japanese wood cuts and their brush and their ink works,” Meredith said.

Meredith hopes that when people look at her work, they can become inspired to look at things in a more creative way.

Her work can be found in the Paige Wiard Gallery at the Calumet Michigan Art Gallery.
