$75 Million for New Soo Lock Included in President Trump’s 2020 Proposed Budget

The new Soo Lock would continue to get more funding, under the president’s budget request.

The project would get more than $75 million under President Trump’s 2020 fiscal year budget.

The Army Corps of Engineers says the funding would keep the project on track for completion in seven to 10 years.

Congressman Jack Bergman says it’s another win for the area.

“That’s a win not only for the Upper Peninsula and the state of Michigan but it truly is a win for the United States. This is a big next step because it shows it’s on the radar of everybody. This is going to be a big deal when we get it all finished, funded and get shovels in the ground,” Rep. Jack Bergman, said.

This year, $32 million was appropriated by Congress for the initial part of the project.
