Gov. Whitmer Issues Executive Order Creating Marijuana Regulatory Agency

Governor Gretchen Whitmer is ending the state’s Medical Marijuana Licensing Board and forming a new regulatory agency.

She issued an executive order Friday creating the Marijuana Regulatory Agency.

She says her order will “eliminate inefficiencies” in the board that has been criticized as too slow.

Governor Whitmer’s order takes effect April 30 if it isn’t voted down by the Republican-led Legislature.

The new agency will also oversee licensing in the recreational marijuana market after voters approved recreational pot last fall.
