Here in Northern Michigan, many of us are not thinking about getting out to golf just yet, but it does not only have to be a summer-time sport.

People participated in the 28th Annual Special Olympics Golf on the Ice event Saturday.

Golfers braved the cold and gathered at the downtown Cadillac boat launch.

The purpose of the event is to raise money for Area 32 Special Olympics.

That covers Wexford and Missaukee counties.

The event raised more than $1,400 in 2018 and organizers hope to surpass 2019’s $2,500 goal.

After golfing, people went to the American Legion Post 94 for lunch, awards and an auction.

“This is their first time on the ice and then golfing in the winter. I’m in! You know, you got these golfing fools out here that they’ll do anything,” said Doug Hiscock, a volunteer for Special Olympics Golf on the Ice.

Area 32 currently serves 137 athletes.

If you like to donate, you may do so .
