Michigan State Police are teaming up with local teens as part of this year’s Michigan State Police Youth Leadership Academy.

They’re partnering troops with 14 and 15 year old boys to help them learn leadership and mentor skills.

It’s a free five-day crash course from July 7 to 11.

They’ll cover physical activity, water safety, nutrition, alcohol and drug awareness, domestic violence awareness, first aid, leadership and public speaking.

Students will also take part in team and character building exercises and take a trip to the state capitol.

Transportation is covered.

It’s happening at the MSP Training Academy in Lansing.

When they get back to Big Rapids, they will do a community service project and have a graduation ceremony luncheon.

Qualifying students must live in the Big Rapids and Reed City communities, or be students from Mecosta and Osceola counties.
