Free Fishing Weekend Brings In Crowds

If you’re looking for some family-friendly activities to hook some fun, then fishing might be a great option for you!

This weekend, you can now fish for free around the entire state of Michigan.

All ages can participate and this will help bring communities closer together.

This event occurs once in February and a second time in June.

Recreation passport fees for free fishing weekend are not required.

Also, all fishing license fees will be waived during this short time-period.

Scott Heintzelman is the Central Lake Michigan Unit Manager for the Department of Natural Resources and advocates this event.

“It’s a good opportunity to get out, take advantage of the natural resources that we have in Michigan.” Heintzelman said. “We have 11,000 lakes and thousands of miles of streams. There is a lot of things you can do. It connects people with the outdoors and helps preserve the heritage of the state.”

This weekend will also include a flurry of other activities that surround fishing.
