Amazon Cancelling Plan For New York Headquarters

Online mega-retailer and tech company Amazon is canceling their plans to build a second headquarters in New York City.

This follows backlash from residents and local leadership.

Amazon said in a statement many state and local politicians opposed the company’s presence and would not work with them.

New York was a part of a list of 20 cities where Amazon considered building their second headquarters.

The web giant promised a two-point-five billion dollar investment and 25 thousand jobs.

New York in exchange pledged three billion in incentives.

New York governor Andrew Cuomo condemns the Amazon oppositions and said “a small group of politicians put their own narrow political interests above their community.”

Protestors say Amazons receiving large tax breaks would not help the city and could increase already high housing prices.
