Michigan Blood Banks See A Decline In Donors

The recent winter weather in Northern Michigan has caused a shortage in blood banks.

The frigid temperatures forced more than 80 community blood drives across Michigan to cancel.

The Versiti Blood Center of Michigan, formerly known as Michigan Blood, in Traverse City are searching for more blood donors.

“We had upwards of over 3,000 units that we were counting on with some of the drives that we had cancelled,” Brig Cutter, Regional Manager for The Versiti Blood Center of Michigan said.”So, that has put us in a very challenging position and we’re trying to boost up our inventory for blood products.”

One pint of blood can save three lives.

The Versiti Blood Center of Michigan appreciates scheduled appointments.

However, they are also open to walk in’s.
