Hundreds Attend 43rd Annual Festival of Races in Traverse City

Hundreds of people from all over came to Traverse City this weekend to enjoy some fun in the snow.

Shorts Brewing Company and Chemical Bank presented the North American VASA 43rd annual Festival of Races.

The races ran both Saturday and Sunday.

There was something for folks of all ages; including freestyle and fat bike races.

Then cross country skiers could participate in a 6k,16k or 35k race.

Of course the event was not just for people living in Traverse City.

Participants come from all over the U.S. and even Canada.

“It’s just something everybody around here looks forward to: the second weekend of February to get out here and enjoy winter” Michael Haley, the president of the North American VASA board said.

The first place winner of Sunday’s Feb. 11 35-k race is from Vermont.

Two Traverse City men claimed 2nd and 3rd.

James Hart finished in 2 hours, 6 minutes and 9 seconds.

While Daniel Novak crossed the finish line just 35 seconds later.
